Research area
My research approaches the phenomenon of topic in various speech acts from the perspective of pragmatics by means of examining the three levels of meaning: sentence meaning, utterance-type meaning and utterance-token meaning.
Based on my research, I argue that topic is a complex phenomenon, the relevance of which varies depending on which level of meaning we investigate. My aim is to explore which aspects of topic occur on the aforementioned levels and what kind of factors have influence over the phenomenon. Furthermore, I also find it crucial to investigate how the analysis of distinct speech acts might contribute to the research on topic.
